(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Forward
Tyler Young and goalkeeper
Edward "Lalo" Delgado were honored by the Golden State Athletic Conference for their efforts in a 2-0 road win at Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) on Saturday. Young scored both of the team's goals while Delgado recorded five saves to preserve the Warriors' fourth straight shutout.
Â
Young, the GSAC Offensive Player of the Week, got Westmont on the board against Olivet Nazarene in just the fifth minute of play.
Zach Godeck found Young in stride with a long ball over the top and the junior forward did the rest, slotting past the goalie to give the Warriors an early lead.
Â
The Ventura native sealed the win for the Warriors with his second goal of the game in the 81st minute, when he leapt over an opposing defender and powered home a header off an inch-perfect
Francisco "Panchito" Castro cross. Young now leads the team with five goals on the season.
Â
Delgado was named GSAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row and for the fifth time in his career. The two-time All-GSAC selection has played every minute for the Warriors this season and has four shutouts in six games.
Â
His 0.50 goals against average on the season ranks ninth in the NAIA. The senior goalkeeper now has 22 saves and a .880 save percentage this year.
Â
The Warriors (6-0), ranked #8 in the NAIA Coaches' Poll, will look to improve their program best start to a season on Thursday night at Cal Poly SLO. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
