Warriors' Fast Start Leads to Road Win

(EL CAJON, Calif.) Westmont Women's Basketball (15-3, 8-1 GSAC) finished the first rotation through Golden State Athletic Conference play with a 75-48 over the Hawks of San Diego Christian (5-15, 0-9).
 
With the win, #4 Westmont remains in a tie with #1 The Master's (20-1, 8-1) for first place in the GSAC standings. #5 Vanguard (14-3, 7-2) fell out of a tie among conference leaders this evening when it lost 67-52 to Hope International (13-5, 4-5). The Master's posted a 74-38 win over Life Pacific (5-14, 1-8).
 
The Warriors took control of the game early, outscoring the Hawks 34-6 in the first quarter. Westmont shot 81.3% (13 of 16) in the opening frame including 71.4% (5 of 7) from beyond the arc.
 
Sophomore forward Gabriella Stoll made 12 of her game high 18 points in the first quarter, shooting a perfect five of five from the floor, including a long distance bomb for three. For the game, Stoll was seven of 11 from the field and pulled down six rebounds.
 
The second quarter proved to be a bit of a reversal as the Hawks outscored the Warriors 18-6. Still, Westmont took a score of 42-24 into the locker room at the intermission.
 
The third quarter was the most closely contested with San Diego Christian edging Westmont 17-16. Lauren Tsuneishi hit two of her four three-pointers in the penultimate period. The junior guard finished the game with 12 points, four rebounds and five assists.
 
Kaitlin Larson scored six of her 15 points in the third quarter. Larson added 12 rebounds to record her first double-double of the year.
 
Maud Ranger drained a pair of threes in the final frame as the Warriors took control and outscored the Hawks 17-7. The senior guard tallied nine points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
 
Stefanie Berberabe added to the Warriors' cause with 12 points, six rebounds and three assists.
 
Westmont returns to Santa Barbara for three home games. The first, against William Jessup, is scheduled for Thursday, February 6 at 5:30 p.m.
