(GLENDALE, Ariz.) The 14th ranked Westmont women's tennis team (6-8, 5-1 GSAC) took two Golden State Athletic Conference matches over the weekend in Arizona, shutting out both Ottawa (Ariz.) and Arizona Christian.

On Friday against OUAZ (0-7, 0-5 GSAC), the Warriors won by a final score of 7-0.

"The women made excellent changes from (Thursday's loss to #9 Indiana Wesleyan)," Westmont head coach Ellie Johnson said. "They showed up focused and ready to play.

"Each court was an example of character and class. I am proud of their performance and sportsmanship."

In doubles, Cade Pierson and Emily Peterson won 6-2 at number one, while Rachal Jackson and Christine Hemry defeated their opponents 6-0 at number two. Sidney Lowry and Ana Negri won at number three by default.

In singles, Westmont won four of the five singles matches played by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Peterson (number two), Hemry (number three), Negri (number four) and Ava Verchimak (number five) all did not concede a single game in their two-set victories. The only Warrior to not win 6-0, 6-0 was Cade Pierson, who prevailed 6-1, 6-0 at number one.

Then on Saturday against Arizona Christian (2-5, 2-2), the Warriors completed their road trip with a 5-0 win.

"It was a good finish to our trip in Arizona," Johnson said. "Good focus and energy from the Warriors to take a solid sweep."

Westmont won both matches in doubles that were completed before taking the third by default. Pierson and Peterson teamed up to win 6-2 at number one before Jackson and Lowry won 6-3 at number two. Hemry and Negri were credited with a win at number three.

The Warriors won the three singles matches that were completed, beginning with Hemry's 6-0, 6-1 victory at number five. Jackson won 6-1, 6-2 at number three before Peterson also won (6-3, 6-0) at number two. Negri won by default at number six.

Lowry was leading 6-1, 4-0 at number four and Pierson was trailing 5-6 in the first set at number one when Westmont clinched the match.
