(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Basketball (5-1), ranked fourth in the NAIA, completed at two-game sweep of Simpson (0-8) with a 91-47 win on Saturday afternoon in Murchison Gymnasium.
Â
"I was pleased with another good overall team performance with a lot of people stepping up and making contributions," said Westmont head coach
Kirsten Moore. "There was great effort again tonight on the boards and the thirty assists – it was remarkable how we were sharing the ball. There were so many possession where the players gave up a shot to get a great shot for a teammate. Thirty assists on 33 baskets is remarkable."
Â
Lauren Tsuneishi drained four 3-point field goals in the first quarter as the Warriors outscored the visiting Red Hawks 33-14 in the opening frame.
Â
"Lauren came out on fire for us and opened things up," noted Moore. "In yesterday's game we did such a good job getting the ball inside to our post players. I thought that helped open things up for the perimeter game more today. We shot the ball well from the 3-point line, especially in the first half."
Â
Tsuneishi finished the game with 20 points, 18 of which came on six long-range buckets.
Â
After a disappointing game the night before,
Iyree Jarrett responded with a notable performance.
Â
"Iyree was frustrated yesterday, being in foul trouble all night," explained Moore. "She had a huge impact on the game tonight with 16 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds and four steals. She was in control of the game and the flow of the game."
Â
Stefanie Berberabe also had an all-around game with eight points, 11 rebounds, six assists and two steals.
Gabriella Stoll contributed 14 points to the Warriors' cause while
Aleena Cook notched 10 points and four assists. Each players also had two steals.
Â
All 10 players who entered the game scored at least three points and all but one pulled down at least one rebound.
Â
"Our bench had great contributions from Gabby and Aleena. Kristi Miyahara shot the ball well and
Kirsten Koehnke made a three as well. It was good overall effort that can give us momentum going into a huge week next week."
Â
The Warriors are slated to take on Vanguard three times next week in Golden State Athletic Conference action beginning on Tuesday in Costa Mesa. On Friday and Saturday, the Warriors and Lions will face off in Montecito. Â
Â
"Vanguard is a tough team and we always have great battles with them," said Moore. "This season has been so unconventional in so many ways. I'm glad we will have the opportunity to compete with them next week and be challenged. We are looking forward to that challenge of playing a really good team."
