(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Down a player for today's match, #20 Westmont Women's Tennis fell to Saint Katherine 6-1. The Warriors had to forfeit the number six singles match and the number three doubles match.
 
"It is a disappointing loss, but considering the circumstances, our players fought from start to finish and continue to build on the foundation that will carry over into our matches to come," reflected Westmont head coach Ellie Johnson.
 
In doubles play, Cade Pierson and Rachal Jackson lost a close won on court number one, falling to Eugenio and Heckert 7-5. At number two, Sidny Lower and Christine Hemry posted a 6-4 win over Mountain and Duncan. Because of the forfeit at number three, however, the doubles point went to the Firebirds.
 
"Sidney and Christine pulled out a great doubles win by working together and having the mentality of getting one more ball back in play," assessed Johnson.
 
In singles play, Cade Pierson prevailed on the number won court, defeating Eugenio 6-3, 6-2.
 
"Cade played a great singles match and played very steady, smart points while dictating and playing aggressively at the right moments."
 
At number two, Mountain defeated Jackson 6-3, 6-2 while at number three Heckert posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Lowry. At number four, Schellekens notched a 6-4, 7-6 win over Hemry and on number five, Duncan defeated Olivia Madarang 6-0, 6-2.
 
Westmont will hit the road tomorrow for a pair of matches. On Friday, the Warriors will play at Biola. Then the Warriors will continue south to Ramona where they will meet up with the Hawks of #12 San Diego Christian.
