(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Track and Field will send 10 athletes to compete at the Indoor Track and Field National Championships in Yankton, South Dakota this week. The four-day event begins on Wednesday, March 3 and will be conducted in the Ruth Donahoe First Dakota Fieldhouse on the campus of Dakota State University.
Kristen Mohrhoff will compete in the women's 600 meter run. Mohrhoff, a senior, qualified with a time of 1:38.76 at the GSAC Indoor Invitational held at Westmont last weekend. This will be Mohrhoff's first trip to a track and field championship. The 600 meter semifinals will be held on Wednesday, March 3 at 12:45 p.m. PST.
Also competing for the first time at nationals will be
Madden Hundley. The sophomore qualified to compete in the women's mile by recording a time of 5:14.81 at last week's GSAC Indoor Invitational. The mile semifinals will take place on Wednesday, March 3 at 10:40 a.m. PST.
Sydney Marr will compete in the 25-pound weight throw for the third time. Marr, who earned NAIA All-American honors in the same event two years ago, qualified for the championships with a throw of 16.84 meters (55-3), also at the GSAC Indoor Invitational. Marr's qualifying mark is the fifth best in the NAIA this year.
Marr is also an All-American in the outdoor women's hammer and is the Westmont record holder in both the hammer and the 25-pound weight throws. Marr will begin completion at 10:00 a.m. PST on Friday. March 5.
Seth Wilmoth qualified for the men's pole vault by clearing 4.90 meters (16-0.75) in the On Your Marks meet on January 30. Wilmoth won the indoor national championship in the pole vault in 2019 with a school-record 5.05 meter vault (16-6.75), and is a three-time NAIA All-American. Wilmoth's qualifying mark tied for the third-highest vault in the NAIA this season. The men's pole vault will be conducted on Thursday, March 4 at 4:00 p.m. PST.
Freshman
Adam King will represent Westmont in the men's mile after qualifying with a time of 4:16.71 at the GSAC Indoor Invitational. King's time was the 12th fastest in the NAIA this season. King will compete in the semifinals on Thursday, March 4 at 10:40 a.m. PST.
Two relay teams have also qualified to compete in the national championships.
John Baker, King, Senzo Sokhela and
Jason Peterson are slated to compete in the 4 x 800 meter men's relay. Danny Rubin,
Jarad Harper, Peterson and Sokhela are scheduled to compete in the men's distance medley relay.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team's qualification time of 7:47.92, recorded at the GSAC Indoor Invitational, is the ninth fastest in the NAIA this year. The DMR qualification time of 10:21.11 is the NAIA's 12th fastest time. The semifinals for both relay events will take place on Thursday, March 4 with the 4 x 800 relay starting at 7:15 a.m. PST and the DMR beginning at 9:15 a.m. PST.
