(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Men's Soccer will have to wait a bit more before playing in its season opener. The Warriors learned today that their scheduled season opener with Providence Christian has been canceled due to COVID-19 positive test results on the Sea Beggars' team. The game had been scheduled for Saturday at Thorrington Field.
Â
Westmont will now open the season by hosting Point Loma Nazarene on Wednesday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. The Warriors and Sea Lions have a long history and a close connection. The long history is, in part, a result of Point Loma's former membership in the Golden State Athletic Conference. The two teams have met 44 times with Westmont holding a 34-6-4 series advantage.
Â
The fact that the head coaches of the two teams are brothers, makes for the close connection.
Dave Wolf, who is in his 30th year at Westmont, will match wits with his brother Phil, who is in his ninth season at Point Loma.
Â
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans will not be admitted to the game. However, everyone can follow the action on the Westmont Sports Network by pointing their browsers to https://athletics.westmont.edu/video, or by tuning in on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV or Roku.
