(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Tennis (6-9, 4-4 GSAC)) closed out the regular season in style on Friday, by defeating Hope International (4-7, 4-7) 7-0 at home. The match was the team's final tune-up before beginning the GSAC tournament tomorrow.
After sweeping the Royals 7-0 on March 5 on Fullerton, the Warriors defended home court on Friday, April 16 to complete the season sweep over Hope.
Cade Pierson and
Rachal Jackson won their second doubles match of the season against the Royals, this time by a score of 6-4 over Carolina Guerrero and Samantha Paz. On court two
Christine Hemry and
Sidney Lowry solidified the Warriors claim of the doubles point, by securing a 6-1 victory over Phylicia Valdez and Anastasi Djordjevic.
Pierson continued her dominance on court one in singles play, beating Paz 6-0, 6-1 in two sets. Jackson had similar success against Guerrero one court over, as she posted a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Hemry took care of things on court three by posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory, and
Olivia Madarang defeated Hope's Lisanne Siebrecht 6-3, 6-1 on court four.
Westmont's
Logan Jackson followed the team's trend of not dropping a single set by defeating Valdez 6-0, 6-4 on court five.
The Warriors hope to carry the momentum into tomorrow's match when they take on Arizona Christian in the quarterfinals of the GSAC tournament down in San Diego. The two teams have yet to meet this season.
Westmont enters the GSAC tournament the #4 seed after finishing with a .500 record in conference play, while ACU is the five seed after going 3-5 during the GSAC regular season.
If the fourth-seeded Warriors win tomorrow, on Wednesday they would take on the one-seeded San Diego Christian Hawks in the semifinals. San Diego Christian defeated Westmont 4-0 back on February 20, but the last time the two met on March 30 was much closer as the Hawks took the match 4-3.
The #12 Hawks enter the GSAC tournament undefeated (10-0) in conference play, and are the only GSAC team ranked in the top 25.
The Warriors have gone to the conference tournament five times in program history, including the last tournament to be played back in 2019, when they defeated San Diego Christian in the final.
