(AZUSA, Calif.) On Friday and Saturday, a group of athletes from Westmont Track and Field headed down to Azusa Pacific to compete in the Last Chance Twilight Meet. For some of the athletes it was one final opportunity to qualify for the Outdoor National Championships, and for others it was the final opportunity to prepare for their already secured trip.

On Friday, Sydney Marr had one final tune up in the hammer throw, an event she has already qualified for at the Outdoor National Championships. In Azusa, Marr finished second in the event with a mark of 53.68 meters (176-1), a little short of her season-best 54.10 mark she set during the GSAC Championships.

Seth Wilmoth also utilized Friday to prepare for Gulf Shores, finishing sixth in the pole vault with a high of 4.80 Championships, when he cleared 5.06 meters. Also competing in the pole vault for the Warriors was Cameron Franklin, who cleared 4.20 meters (13-9.25).

Madden Hundley was Westmont's lone track competitor for the Women on Friday, as she finished about three seconds shy of the NAIA "B" standard, posting a time of 4:46.99 in the Women's 1500 meter run. Hundley had a strong showing on Saturday in the 5000 meter run, finishing first in the event with a time of 18:03.90, unfortunately 13 seconds off the "B" standard however.

For the men, Danny Rubin competed in two events over the weekend, posting a 4:03.18 in the Men's 1500 meter run, and a 2:00.30 in the Men's 800 meter run. Rubin was joined on Saturday in the 800 by Jason Peterson and John Baker, who finished with times of 1:58.64 and 1:57.99 respectively.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Thaddeus Kowalik was Westmont's lone competitor in the 3000 meter steeplechase, and he completed the event in 9:59.02.

The men's track events over the weekend have one final opportunity for both Zola Sokhela and Adam King to prepare for competition in Gulf Shores, and the two men finished the regular season strong. On Friday, both men competed in the 1500 meter run, an event they've both nationally qualified for, and Sokhela finished second in the event with a time of 3:44.69 and King finished in 3:58.00. For Sokhela, his time was 0.07 seconds off his previous season-best, which he set at the Bryan Clay Invitational.

Sokhela remains Westmont's lone qualifier in the Men's 800 meter run, and he finished his final regular season 800 in 1:49.61, finishing first at the Last Chance Meet. King finished the 88 on 1:55.41.

As of now the athletes officially joining Marr, Sokhela, King, and Wilmoth at the Outdoor National Championships will be Jason Peterson and Danny Rubin. Peterson, Rubin, King, and Sokhela qualified for the Men's 4x800 meter relay during the Westmont Collegiate Classic with a time of 7:45.08.

Sokhela, the GSAC Freshman of the Year, will enter the national championships as the number one national qualifier in both the 800 and 1500 meter run.

Competition at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships begins on Wednesday, May 26 in Gulf Shores, Alabama and concludes on Friday, May 28.
