(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Soccer, ranked eighth in the NAIA, improved to 5-0-1 on the year with a 2-0 victory over NCAA Division II Cal State San Marcos (2-2-2) on Saturday afternoon at Thorrington Field. Reese Davidson scored both goals for the Warriors while Kailey Meyers collected her four shutout of the year.

"I was really happy about our team's performance today," said Westmont head coach Jenny Jaggard. "It was a full team performance with Reese scoring two good goals. KK (Meyers) did a great job on a few of their dangerous set pieces to keep us with a clean sheet today. Our entire backline was really good today."

Davidson supplied the only goal of the first half on a scramble in front of the net in the 15th minute. Sadie Hill took a free kick from 40 yards out on the right side. She delivered the ball to Karly Kingsley down the touchline before Kingsley sent it right back to Hill.

Hill then served the ball into the box in front of the goal where a Cougar defender redirected it toward the near post. Cougar goalkeeper Allison Marcure stopped the shot, but could not contain the ball, which popped out in front of the goal. Davidson raced a second Cougar defender to the ball and tapped it into the empty net.

Westmont's second goal came at the end of four minutes of impressive offensive production. In the 62nd minute, Andie Siegel sent a corner kick from the right side into the box that Davidson headed toward the goal from six yards out. Marcure got one hand on the ball to push it upward. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced back into play. Seconds later, Grace Duckens fired off a shot from eight yards. This time Marcure placed two hands on the ball and barely pushed it over the crossbar.

On the ensuing corner kick, this time from Hill on the left side, the ball went past the goal and was headed by Davidson just to the right of the near post. Marcure secured the shot to temporarily thwart the Warriors' attack.

In the 64th minute, Katie DeMillo fired off a shot from the right side of the top of the 18-yard box that bounced off the crossbar and was hauled in by Marcure. Then in the 65th minute, Siegel launched a shot from 35 yards out that was touched by a defender at the top of the 18 before bouncing off the far post.

Still in the 65th minute, Davidson had another opportunity off a corner kick from Hill. This time, Davidson ran forward on the ball, heading it into the goal from four yards out. It was the seventh goal of the season for Davidson, which ties for third most in the NAIA this year.

"I thought that Sadie did a great job helping us build out of the back and generate attack while being very patient and calm under heavy pressure," said Jaggard. "I also thought that Amarys Machado and Milo created some dangerous chances and we're more patient about picking better shots."

While the Cougars held a 5-3 shot advantage at halftime, the Warriors outshot the visiting team 14-2 in the second half.

"It was nice to get both Daisy Alvarez and Shayna Stock back for this game," noted Jaggard. "Daisy stepped back into her role like she hadn't missed anything and Shayna helped us to stay calm in some of the more frantic moments in the second half. Everyone played their roles well today."

Westmont continues its busy schedule with a pair of games next week. On Monday, the Warriors will travel to Irvine to take on Westcliff. Then on Wednesday, Westmont will welcome the Pioneers of Antelope Valley to Thorrington field for the last non-conference game of the regular season.
