(SAN FRANCISCO) Outstanding pitching by
Sean Youngerman and
Ryan Humphreys gave Westmont Baseball (4-2-1) a 4-1 victory over Western Oregon (0-3) on Saturday, finishing off a 3-0 road trip to the Bay Area.
Â
Youngerman, the reigning PacWest Pitcher of the Week, started the game and pitched six scoreless innings. The sophomore right-hander from Valencia allowed just one hit while striking out 11 and walking one. It was Youngerman's second win of the year in as many starts.
Â
Humphreys took over the duties on the mound for the final three innings, allowing just one run on one hit, striking out eight and walking two.
Â
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning, which
Colin Callahan led off with a walk.
Daniel Patterson advanced Callahan to second with a single to left center before
Michael Soper doubled to right field to bring home Callahan and send Patterson to third. That brought up
Bryce McFeely who hit a two-RBI single to left, giving Westmont a 3-0 lead.
Â
The Wolves put up their only run in the top of the seventh off an RBI-single by Emiliano Alarcon. However, McFeely led off the eighth and took the run back with his second home run in as many days and his third of the year. This one made its departure down the left field line
Â
Seven games into the season, the Warriors' offense has averaged 9.32 runs and 10.58 hits per nine-inning game. Westmont batters have a collective on-base percentage of .420 and a collective slugging percentage of .480 with 24 extra-base hits including eight home runs.
