(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Men's Basketball (9-15, 5-11 PacWest) bounced back on Saturday afternoon to get the better of the Chaminade Silverswords (9-17, 5-13) by a score of 91-70. Westmont took a double-digit lead into the second-half In Murchison Gym, and not only held their advantage, but out-scored the road team by near-double-figures again to cap off the 21-point win.
As a team, the story of the day was Westmont's free throw shooting. Coming into the day, the Warriors shot just under 65% as a team from the charity stripe, but on Saturday, Westmont was nails as they knocked down 21 of 23. Leading the way were the McIntyre brothers, who both shot seven of eight from the free throw line to ice the victory.
Joining the party was
Amir Davis, who made three of three from the line, and
Jalen Townsell, who sank four of four. Westmont made only four of 21 from three-point range, but from inside the arc, Westmont shot an efficient 29 of 36.
Defensively, Westmont out-rebounded CUH 43-32, and also, the club held the Silverswords to a shooting percentage of just 35.6% (26-73).
Individually,
Anthony McIntyre continued his chase for the PacWest scoring title, as the senior dropped 25 points on eight of 10 shooting. Westmont's leading scorer now averages 18.8 points-per-game, and with four games remaining in PacWest play, he now stands alone atop the leaderboard.
McIntyre will have to hold off Academy of Art's Jamal Fuller, who averages 18.1 a game, and Biola's Nathan Medina, who averages 17.5, as the season winds down.
Behind Anthony,
Adrian McIntyre also had himself a strong day, with the junior scoring 21 points on seven of 10 shooting. The McIntyre brothers also cleaned glass on Saturday, with Anthony grabbing eight boards, and Adrian leading the team with nine.
Amir Davis also had himself a strong day, as the guard scored 17 points to go along six boards and a team-best seven assists.
Jarrett Bryant joined Davis and the McIntyre's in double-figures, as Bryant collected 10 points on five of eight shooting.
Westmont's final road game of the season is scheduled for Wednesday night in San Diego, when they take on Point Loma at 6:30 p.m. Following the clash with the Sea Lions, Westmont will play their final three games of the season inside Murchison Gym.
