(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) A host of events and activities over Homecoming Weekend will highlight Westmont's celebration of 50 years of women's intercollegiate sports at Westmont, October 17 and 18. Women's athletics at Westmont has a rich tradition of both in competition and in helping student athletes mature in all areas of life. Athletic accomplishments include eight national championships, 21 national top-four finishes, and 355 All-Americans.
 
Women's sports at Westmont began with the 1973-74 season, which saw the beginning of the volleyball and women's basketball programs.
 
The marquee event of the weekend will be on Saturday evening, October 18 at the Montecito Covenant Church. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. The event will honor athletes from the entire history of Westmont Women's Sports. It is expected to draw the largest gathering of current and former Westmont women athletes in school history. Registration for the event is available at https://athletics.westmont.edu/50 through Sunday, October 12.
 
The celebration begins at the women's volleyball game against Point Loma on Friday, October 17. The 1974 volleyball team, the first female athletes to represent Westmont, will be honored before the game. Plan to arrive at Murchison Gym by 6:45 p.m. for the event.
 
On Saturday, at halftime of the women's soccer game against Biola, Westmont will honor Legacy Builders with a short on field presentation. Game time is at noon at Thorrington Field.
 
Several other sport-specific gatherings will take place over the two days:

• Former swimmers are invited to the home of Coach Jill Lin on Friday, October 17 for an alumnae team dinner. (RSVP: jijones@westmont.edu)
• Women's Cross Country and Track and Field alumnae are invited to meet at the track entrance at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 18 for a run with the current team.
• Women's Soccer alumnae can join the current team for breakfast burritos and a pre-game devotional at 9:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 18. (Registration: https://athletics.westmont.edu/WSOCAlumnae)
• Women's Basketball alumnae are invited on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon to watch the current team practice in Murchison Gym and then join in an alumni game and shooting competitions. Lunch with the current team will follow. (Registration: https://athletics.westmont.edu/WBBAlumnae)
• Women's Volleyball alumnae can join in an alumni game from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at Murchison Gym.
• Women's Tennis alumnae can participate in an open practice and hitting with current players on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
