(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) The NCAA announced on November 20 that Westmont College is one of 43 Division II schools to receive the President's Award for Academic Excellence. The award is given out to schools that achieve an Academic Success Rate of 90% or higher. Westmont's rate was 92%.
"I am quite proud of our student-athletes for this noteworthy accomplishment," said Director of Athletics, Robert Ruiz. "Their commitment to academic excellence, coupled with their drive to excel in their respective sports, is commendable.
"I believe that our student-athletes are faced with a high-level of academic rigor coupled with aspirational standards in their athletic program, which makes this accomplishment all the more meaningful."
The PacWest featured four representatives on the list, with Westmont joining Biola, Dominican, and Point Loma as President's Award recipients. For reference, the federal Academic Success Rate for Division II athletes is 58%. Westmont College has surpassed this average by more than 30%.
