Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors to Miss Postseason

(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Soccer (5-11, 5-5 PacWest) needed two things to happen on the final day of the 2025 regular season in order to be one of four teams that would advance to the PacWest Tournament. First, they would need to defeat Dominican (9-1-8. 5-1-4). Secondly, they would need Point Loma (8-3-5, 5-1-4) to either tie or lose their game with Fresno Pacific (4-8-5, 3-3-4).

Unfortunately for the Warriors, neither of those two conditions materialized today. The Warriors fell to the Penguins by a score of 2-0, ending the hope of postseason play. That made Point Loma's 3-0 victory over Fresno Pacific irrelevant – at least as far as the Warriors are concerned.

"The fact that we put ourselves in a place of contention is applaudable in a very tight and competitive conference," reflected Westmont's head coach Lauren Matthias. "I'm proud of this group for their work over the last few months and for adapting to adversity."

"We were not our sharpest and were not consistent today. We had quite a few missed passes and defensive errors, and weren't fully in sync offensively. Those are things we have to continue to grow in the off season."

The Penguins' first goal came in the 21st minute when Ashlynn Hill headed in a ball that was served in by Janae Schwan off a free kick from the top-right corner of the 18-yard box.

In the first minute after halftime, the Penguins added the second goal. Hill headed a ball forward that allowed Megan Clapinski to get in behind the Warrior defense, dribble forward, and shoot into the far corner of the net from 11 yards out.

"I think overall we have a lot to hang our heads high on this year, even if we didn't get the end goal," said Westmont's head coach Lauren Matthias. "The seven seniors we honored today played a big role in keeping that drive and motivation this season. That doesn't go unnoticed or unappreciated. I have nothing but immense gratitude and love for our seniors."

The seven seniors honored in a pregame ceremony were:
The first two on that list have another year of eligibility due to injuries during their Westmont careers and are expected to return to the roster next season.

"I'm thankful for our fans, supporters, administration, alumni, and friends of the program that showed up and poured into these women this year," expressed Matthias. "I hope those that showed up, can see the foundation we are working toward laying and saw some glimpses of really positive, bright spots. I still know that the best is yet to come for the program."
