Sage Kramer and
Lisa Kiefer each recorded a double-double to help lead Westmont Women's Basketball (14-6, 10-3 PacWest) to a 66-60 win over the Golden Eagles of Concordia (3-17, 2-11). With the win, Westmont completed a perfect 6-0 homestand and won its ninth game in a row.
Â
Kramer and Kiefer each tallied 16 rebounds as the Warriors outrebounded the Golden Eagles 45-30. Kramer scored 16 points for the Warriors and Kiefer contributed 10 points. Both players pilfered the ball three times. It was the second double-double of the season for Kramer and the third for Kiefer.
Â
Also scoring in double-figures was
Mariah Brown who tallied 13 points and four assists.
Â
Westmont jumped out to an 8-0 lead with layups by Kramer, Brown and
Molly Garnand as well as a pair of free throws from Kramer. The rest of the way, the Warriors never relinquished the lead. In the fourth quarter, however, Concordia pulled within two points (54-52) when Izzy Navarro hit a 3-pointer with 2:39 to play.
Â
Kramer responded on the Warriors next possession with a triple of her own. With a minute and one-half to go, the Golden Eagles' Cadence Tarrant scored on a layup to pull within three (57-54).
Â
Down the stretch, however, the Warriors made nine of 10 free throws to keep the Golden Eagles at bay and secure the win.
Â
With seven games remaining in the regular season, Westmont finds itself in fourth place in the PacWest standings. The Warriors are one and one-half games behind Azusa Pacific and Point Loma who sit atop the standings with conference records of 12-2. Vanguard is in third place with a record of 11-2, one game ahead of the Warriors.
Â
In the seven remaining games, Westmont will play Point Loma and Vanguard twice and Azusa Pacific once. The other two games will be against Academy of Art and Biola.
Â
At season's end, the top six teams will earn a berth in the PacWest Tournament. Vanguard, Menlo and Jessup are not eligible this season as a result of transition years into Division II. The top two teams in the conference standing receive a first round bye in the tournament. Currently, Westmont holds the third seed.
Â
Next week, the Warriors will travel to Vanguard on Wednesday, then return home to host Point Loma on Saturday afternoon.
