(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Men's and Women's Tennis hosted the Concordia Golden Eagles on Thursday in Santa Barbara, where CUI ultimately took two matches. In the women's match, Westmont snapped a four-game winning streak when the Golden Eagles defeated the Warriors 5-2.
Â
Westmont's pair of points came in singles, where
Francesca Aguirre defeated Sophie Rachor 5-7, 6-1, 10-8 in three sets on court one, and
Kaley Houshmand defeated Jennifer Jolin 6-2, 7-5 on court six.
Â
"This is some of the best tennis I've seen us play in a match where the result was a loss," said head coach
Cade Pierson. I think we did carry the momentum of our winning streak and I think we competed really well today despite the result. Concordia is a team that on a good day can sweep anybody.
Â
"I was particularly proud of the way our two's competed in doubles. In fact, I thought it was some of the best tennis I've seen them play even in comparison to some of the matches they have won. I think we're in really good shape going into Saturday."
Â
Pierson continued, "The reality is, sometimes you're going to play good tennis and still lose. You have to remain confident, and you have to keep some form of momentum. Frenchy had a great win today against a top of the conference opponent. I think having her family around might be a lucky charm. Lauren, on three, played some of the best tennis I've seen her play. I think she's in a really good place going into Saturday.
Â
"Across the board we didn't have our usual lineup, and some people stepped up. Kaley had a huge win on six. To see her step into the lineup and take care of business made me really happy for her. I can find something to be proud of and something to be disappointed in with every loss, but I think there's much more to be proud of in this one. I hope we can play with the kind of confidence we did today on Saturday."
Â
For Westmont's men, the Warriors fell 6-1, with the club's lone point once again coming from
Austin Stone, who remains red shot on court one against the best the PacWest has to offer. This time, Stone dispatched Felix Veyhle 6-3, 7-6 (1) to get Westmont on the board.
Â
The Warriors will return to action on Saturday at home, when Westmont hosts Fresno Pacific at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
