(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) An historic season for
Adrian McIntyre has led to one final accolade for the-now Westmont graduate, as it was announced on Thursday afternoon that he was named the PacWest Male Athlete of the Year.
Â
McIntyre, who became Westmont's first PacWest Player of the Year in men's basketball, now becomes Westmont's first all-encompassing Athlete of the Year in the entire conference. McIntyre led all NCAA Division II scorers by averaging 27.9 points-per-game, and set program records for Westmont in both season-long scoring, and single-game scoring. The latter of which came in his signature game as a Warrior, when McIntyre scored 51 points in an overtime win against Point Loma on the eighth of February.
Â
"We are incredibly proud of Adrian for this milestone accomplishment," offered Director of Athletics, Robert Ruiz. "This year, his basketball acumen spoke for itself as he etched himself Westmont Basketball history. What makes this award so fitting for Adrian, to me, is all of the intangibles that didn't show up on the scoresheet.
Â
"Adrian was a great leader on and off the court, engaged himself in the department and campus community, and always made those around him better. I am extremely happy for Adrian for earning this distinguished award and the recognition that comes with it."
Â
McIntyre, who received his degree from Westmont College this May, is utilizing his final year of eligibility to compete at the NCAA Division I level for the University of San Diego Toreros. Westmont College Athletics thanks Adrian for a spectacular senior season, and wishes him all the best in what hopes to be many more years of high-level basketball.
