(SAN MARCOS, Calif.) Westmont Women's Soccer (0-4) suffered a 1-0 loss to the Cougars of Cal State San Marcos (2-1-2) on Saturday afternoon at The Cage.
Â
"This was a really physical game," reported Westmont's head coach
Lauren Matthias. "We came out with a few injuries and a little banged up."
Â
The Cougars' game winner came in the 20th minute of play. A corner kick resulted in a scramble in front of the Warriors' goal. When the ball came to Brittany Brown, she shot into the bottom right corner to record her first collegiate goal.
Â
"We had some opportunities to get a couple of goals, but we just couldn't convert," noted Matthias. "We still need some work connecting on our passes, as well as the tactical side of things of executing the game plan and understanding how to make adjustments to stay true to the game plan."
Â
The Warriors will have a short turnaround time before welcoming the Bobcats of UC Merced (2-0-2) to campus on Monday for a 3:30 p.m. game. Then on Thursday, Westmont will conclude the non-conference season by hosting Stanislaus State (2-1-2) in a game scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. kick-off.
