HONOLULU — Opening their three-match Hawaiian swing with an explosive offensive display, the Westmont women's soccer team broke out in a big way on Saturday afternoon, securing a 4–0 shutout victory over Hawaii Pacific at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Stadium.
The victory marked the Warriors' (2-6-3, 1-3-0 PacWest) first conference win of the season, fueled by four distinct goal-scorers and a commanding 21-to-9 advantage in total shots.
"We've just been continuing to encourage and emphasize attacking patterns that play into our strengths, and we were finally able to finish and execute off of those," said Westmont Head Coach Lauren Matthias. "We were also able to isolate 1-on-1 situations on the flanks and drive directly at their backline, which helped create a lot of quality chances in the final third."
Junior forward Skyler McNamara opened the scoring in the 30th minute, finishing a pass from midfielder Ruby Stimer to give Westmont a 1–0 lead. Right before halftime, senior midfielder Mia Stuart doubled the advantage in the 45th minute off an assist from Ellie Gilbert to send the Warriors into the break with momentum.
Westmont kept its foot on the gas in the second half. Stimer capped off a brilliant individual performance in the 59th minute by striking home a ball set up by Hannah Hayes. Forward Kaia Diederichs then put the finishing touches on the victory in the 67th minute, scoring unassisted off the bench to make it 4–0.
"It was so good to see Mia and Kaia come in and contribute off the bench in that way—I'm very excited for those two," Matthias praised. "Honestly, all four goals were quality tonight, and I was super proud of our finishing ability. Everyone who came off the bench had a huge impact. With 20 minutes left during the water break, we encouraged the group to remain disciplined and finish it well, and they did exactly that."
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Ellie Ludwig turned away five shots on target to record the clean sheet, supported by strong play from backline anchors Daniella Coyle and Madison Ford.
"Getting that momentum forward in the first half was vital," Matthias added. "Our defensive effort was fantastic tonight. We commanded our box extremely well with both our goalkeepers and defenders. Dani and Ford helped command that for us, and Ellie Ludwig did as well."
Westmont continues its Hawaii trip on Monday, October 12, when they match up against Chaminade.
