(LOS ANGELES) Westmont Women's Tennis (3-3) battled for nearly four hours on Friday afternoon in Los Angeles and in the end, the Warriors walked away with a resilient 4-3 victory over Cal State LA (0-3). With the win, the Warriors moved back to .500 on the season, earning their first win of the year over a PacWest competitor in a contest that came down to the final points of the day.

After dropping the doubles point, Westmont refused to go down quietly in singles play. In fact, Westmont actually led 3-2, winning three of the first four matches to final come singles. The Warriors claimed victories at line three, line three and line five singles to take that 3-2 lead with two matches still on court.

At line three singles, Justie Spitzer secured a straight-set win, defeating Georgiana Parr 7-5, 7-5. Ellie Triplett followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at line four singles, while Emma Rashid came away with a commanding 6-4, 6-0 win at line five to put the Warriors in front.

Cal State LA evened the match at 3-3 with a three-set win at line one, setting the stage for a dramatic finish on court six.

In the final match of the afternoon, Rylee Halsey came through in clutch fashion. After taking the opening set 6-1 and narrowly dropping the second 7-5, Halsey fought through a decisive third-set tiebreaker to defeat Charlotte Downs 6-1, 5-7, 7-6 (4), clinching an electric win for the Warriors.

Despite the early deficit, the Warriors responded with a level of resilience that appears to be growing for a group that has seen two of their three wins this season come in a winner-take-all tiebreaker. First, it was freshman Ellie Triplett on February 4 against Cal Lutheran. Today, it was another freshman in Halsey.

Westmont's young group with growing confidence will next play on Tuesday in Irvine, where they will take on the Concordia Golden Eagles.
