Â
(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Men's Tennis (5-2) has won five of its first seven in 2026 after the Warriors defeated NCAA Division III Chapman on Wednesday in Orange County. It was a dominant effort by the Warriors, who surrendered only a single point in an eventual 6-1 win.
Â
Diego De Cooman and
Rafael Matias took care of their line-two opponents in doubles (6-4), as did
Arjun Sivakumar and
Zach Steinberg at line three (6-3). De Cooman also showed off his dominance in singles, winning 6-3, 6-2.
Driss Sedrati had to work for it at line three a bit in the first, but still won in two sets 7-6 (2), 6-3.
Zach Steinberg put on an impressive showing in his match, winning at line five singles 6-1, 6-3.
Â
Sidharth Maharana won by the same score at line six, and rounding out Westmont's scoring was
Antoine De Cooman at line four, where he won 5-7, 6-4, and 10-4 in a tiebreaker.
Â
"I was really proud of the guys today," said Westmont head coach
Chris Elwood. "We played a very strong Chapman team who evenly matched with us in UTR, and we took them down, 6-1. This was a great road win for us, and probably the best we've been across the board in any particular match thus far.
Â
"Everyone played strong to put us in a position to win. In particular, I want to give mention to
Diego De Cooman and
Driss Sedrati, who played their best matches of the year so far. Zach and Sid at five and six, as well. I thought they particularly brought a high level today, and really elevated their games across the board. We're looking forward to trying to bring this level of tennis into our next home match this weekend."
