(CLAREMONT, Calif.) The Westmont Track & Field team had a strong showing at the Rossi Relays on Saturday, particularly in field events. Multiple Warriors earned personal records, including David Oyebade's school record of 53.86 meters—breaking his own mark set last year—in the men's hammer throw.

The senior Oyebade also logged a personal record in the men's discus throw—his 47.90 meters earned him a podium finish, just 0.13 meters behind second place. Joel Nakazawa's 46.25 meters was also a personal best, good for fifth in the event. Another personal best for Nakazawa came in the hammer throw, at 48.02 meters, as was the case for Matthew Cazares' (37.90m).

Those were not the only standout performers in hammer, though. For the women, freshman Lucie Pickering Pick's 32.26 meters marked a personal best for her, too.

Lucas DeDora gave the Warriors eight points by a second-place finish in the men's javelin. His 60.15 meters were yet another personal best, rounding out a 100 percent record of personal bests on the day for the entire throws group.

Rounding out the field events, pole vaulter Madeleine Koenig's 3.50-meter mark earned the women's team five points and her fourth place.

"Madeleine pushed to new heights in the pole vault, nearly making her final bar after various adjustments and showing courage to try something new," head coach Russell Smelley said. "This will do her well in the next completion as she builds confidence on a new pole."

The best individual race results for the Warriors came in the men's 400 hurdles. Freshman Crusoe Buzzard's 55.95 was good for second place, while freshman Isaac Jones (58.70) and Isaiah Hanna (59.39) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the relays, the men's 4x800 'C' team consisting of four freshmen—Lucas Satterlee, Danny Allan, Maverick Adam, and Elliott Wise—had a phenomenal result. Finishing eighth of 22 relay teams, their time of 7:55.47 beat the other two Warrior relay teams and was less than two seconds off fourth.

The best women's results were the 800 sprint medley relay and 4x100 relay team. In the 800 sprint medley, Grace Soberanis, Charlotte Williams, Ava Shaffer, and Janelle Wanliss (1:50.06) finished seventh. Soberanis, Shaffer, Izabella Guerrero, and Williams finished eighth in the 4x100, clocking in at 48.49.

"The team rounded out the day with a spectacular one-two-three finish in the men's 3000," Smelley said. "All eyes were locked on William Covington and Hunter Skoglund as they battled out the final 200 meters, with William taking it. Meanwhile, Thomas Reed was working his way up, passing a total of five competitors in the last 200 meters to take third. The senior was on the hunt, showing some true heart in his final season.

"Overall, it was a successful outdoor season-opener across the board," Smelley concluded. "Various personal records were made as well as competitive relays run. Lessons were learned and marks were made as our tenacious athletes continue to refine their meet-day management."

The Warriors will compete again next weekend in Santa Barbara on UC Santa Barbara's campus for the Sam Adams Combined Events and Gaucho Relays before hosting a dual meet at Thorrington Track.
