Â
(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Tennis (2-1) ran into #15 Azusa Pacific (4-0) on Monday morning in Santa Barbara, where the Cougars trounced the Warriors 7-0. It was the team's first match against an NCAA Division II opponent this season.
Â
It started in doubles, where Westmont's line two team,
Justie Spitzer and
Ellie Triplett, were putting up a fight down 4-2 against APU's Vini Bautista and Shanelle Lopez. The battle would be cut off prematurely, however, as it became a moot point following a 6-1 win for APU at line one, and a 6-0 win for APU at line three.
Â
The Cougars then took all six matches in singles, with Westmont's best fight coming from
Jessie Allen on court six. Allen took three games in each of two sets against Melis Mert, but still fell in two by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Â
On one, Stina Larsson defeated
Thea Donarski 6-2, 6-0, and on two, Bautista handed
Sabina Salva a 6-0, 6-1 loss. On five, Karola Suviste bested Triplett 6-1, 6-1, and on four, Spitzer fell 6-1, 6-1 to Shanelle Lopez. On court five, Kimberly Tran defeated
Emma Rashid 6-2, 6-2.
Â
Westmont's women will return to action on Saturday in San Diego, where the Warriors will take on #17 Point Loma.
