(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Tennis (8-14) concluded their season on Saturday with a 6-1 defeat to Point Loma (15-3) at the Abbott Tennis Courts.
"Today showcased our team reaching another level of fight," head coach
Sheila Snyder said. "The progress we made over this season was evident in every match as we competed with heart and intensity."
Ranked at 33 in the ITA's latest Division II Team rankings, the visitors quickly showed their quality. With 6-2 and 6-0 doubles wins on courts two and three, respectively, they clinched the opening point. At the top of the lineup,
Lauren Gee and
Sabina Salva's match was left unfinished, trailing 5-2.
The Sea Lions then took straight-set victories on courts six, two, five, and four, in that order. Senior number two
Justie Spitzer and senior number four Salva—playing their final college matches—and number five
Ellie Triplett each dropped a set 6-4, so the Warriors remained competitive until the end.
"Our seniors gave it their all and represented the Westmont way from the first to the last point they played today," Snyder said.
Then, the Warriors' highlight of the day came from
Thea Donarski, earning the team's lone point. The Westmont number one was matched up against Alina Kupfer, who is ranked 40th in the ITA Singles rankings—second-best in the PacWest.
After dominating in a 6-1 opening set, Donarski fell 7-6 (7-4) in the second. The ensuing superbreaker went 32 points—Donarski eventually took home a 17-15 victory in the battle of the number ones. Thus, the freshman ended the year on a four-match singles winning streak.
In the last remaining match, Gee won her first set 6-3 on court three before dropping the next two 6-2 and 6-4.
"Super proud of the progress we made throughout the season," Snyder concluded. "Sad to see the season end, though. The team was beginning to believe and playing their best tennis."
Looking back, this season was a marked improvement for the Warriors, who had not won eight matches since 2022. Of the nine Warriors who competed on the day, four were freshmen plus one sophomore (Gee). It will be exciting to follow next year's team after gaining valuable experience in 2026.
