Westmont Sweeps Jessup

(ROSEVILLE, Calif.) The three-game Northern California trip for Westmont Men's Tennis (9-8) took a turn for the better on Thursday when the Warriors swept Jessup (2-7) at the Johnson Ranch Sports Club by a score of 7-0. Westmont won all three doubles matches in addition to all six of the singles competitions.
 
At number one doubles, Driss Sedrati and JD Drake posted a 6-3 win over Joren Stevens and Mario Curiel. Zach Steinberg and Diego De Cooman won 6-0 on the number two court, defeating Tanner Sitanggang and Caleb Poling. Arjun Sivankumar and Jon Ball claimed the win on court three, defeating Levy Henrique and Lucas Pham by a score of 6-3.
 
Westmont won in straight sets on courts three, four and five. At number three, Sedrati defeated Pham 6-1, 6-4. Antoine De Cooman picked up the win at number four defeating Pham 6-4, 6-3. On the number five court Drake claimed a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Sitanggang.
 
On the other three singles courts, the first two sets were split, requiring additional play. At number six, Sidharth Maharana posted a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win over Caleb Poling. At number one, Rafael Matias won the first set over his opponent – Mario Curiel – by a score of 6-1, but fell in the second set 7-6 (7-3). With the match already decided, a super breaker was played to determine the winner of set three with Matias prevailing 12-10.
 
Diego De Cooman had a similar match on court one, but in reverse. De Cooman lost the first set 4-6, but rebounded in set two with a 6-3 victory. Then in the super breaker, De Cooman won 10-2.
 
Westmont has one more stop on its NorCal road trip. On Friday, Westmont will travel to the San Francisco Peninsula to take on Menlo in Atherton. Then on Monday, the Warriors will head south to take on Azusa Pacific.
