The Westmont men’s tennis program has a long history of success, with numerous appearances in the NAIA National Tournament, several All-Americans and an individual National Champion.

The program began in the 1960’s and reached national prominence in the early 80’s as Coach Pete Shennum led the team to a pair of NAIA District titles and an eighth place finish in the NAIA National Championship in 1985. Coach Bill Detrich then took over, capturing two more district crowns and guiding the Warriors to fifth place at the NAIA National Championship in 1985.

Former player Chris Elwood took over the coaching reigns in 1993 and proceeded to take the program to new heights. The Warriors won back-to-back-to-back GSAC titles in 1995, 1996 and 1997 and finished an all-time high of third in the NAIA in 1997. Included was an all-Westmont national singles final as Riva DaSilva topped teammate Ashley Fickel to win the 1997 NAIA championship.

Beginning in the 2010 season, Mark Basham had been at the helm of the Warrior program. In his first three seasons as head coach, the Warriors reached the quarterfinals of the NAIA National Tournament each year. In the 2013 season, Westmont advanced to the semifinals, and the Warriors returned to the National Tournament each of the next five years. In 2023, Basham's final year as head coach, the Warriors returned to the GSAC Championship for the final time in their history.

Ahead of the 2023-24 season, Chris Elwood was hired to once again become head coach of the Westmont men's tennis team. Westmont began play in the NCAA that same year, before gaining full membership ahead of the 2025 season.

In all, the Warriors have made 22 appearances in the NAIA National Tournament and have produced 23 NAIA All-Americans.
