Named an Assistant Coach in September of 2011, Selena Ho-English just completed her ninth season at Westmont College. Since 2011, the Warriors have won a National Championship (2013), were National Runner-Up (2018), and have appeared in three national semifinals, five national quarterfinals, and six Round of 16’s.
Since Ho-English's arrival, Westmont has won all five of its Golden State Athletic Conference regular season championships and all six of its GSAC Tournament titles. The Warriors have won the conference tournament in each of the past five seasons (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020).
The Warriors are 243-52 (.824) with Ho-English on the bench and she has helped develop 23 of the program’s 32 players to receive All-American honors. Additionally, the Warriors’ three GSAC Player of the Year honorees and 26 of the program’s 40 All-GSAC performers have played from 2011 on.
"Selena has played such a critical role in the growth and sustained success of our women's basketball program," said head coach Kirsten Moore. "I brought her in because I knew she was passionate about building relationships and mentoring student-athletes. She is driven to help young women absolutely maximize their abilities. Selena has led the way in recruiting high character and talented athletes to join our team."
Prior to Westmont, Ho-English spent eight years as an NCAA Division 1 Assistant, making stops at UC Irvine, University of Oregon, as well as UC Santa Barbara, where she worked for now Cleveland Cavaliers Assistant Coach Lindsay Gottlieb.
As a player at the University of the Pacific, Ho-English produced a stellar career. A four-time All-Big West selection, Ho-English holds the Big West Conference career record for three-pointers made (271), is fifth all-time in free-throw percentage (82.3%) and sixth in three-point percentage (40.6%). She also holds school records for three-point field goals, three-point field goal percentage and free throw percentage.
"Selena is truly gifted at using her basketball acumen to put our talented players in positions on the court to find collective success," said Moore. "I always say that the little things make the big things happen and Selena has a unique ability to see intricacies of the game that most coaches cannot even see."
Ho-English is currently in three Hall of Fames, having been inducted into the City of Stockton Hall of Fame (2007), the San Mateo County and Peninsula Sports Hall of Fame (2013), and most recently the University of the Pacific Hall of Fame (2016).
"One of Selena’s greatest strengths is her competitiveness," continued Moore. "She is a winner, she is used to winning and she is willing to work very hard to win. She will hold our players to a high standard and is great at individual skill development."
She is married to Matt English and the couple has two children: Emary and Elijah.
