Bridget Coonan joined the Westmont sports medicine staff in July of 2020 as an assistant athletic trainer.
Prior to Westmont, Bridget served as a graduate assistant athletic trainer in California State University, Northridge's sports medicine department, where she worked primarily with men's volleyball and men's and women's cross country/track & field. She received her master's degree in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise physiology from CSUN in the summer of 2020.Â
Coonan began her stint as part of the Westmont sports medicine staff during the heart of the COVID-19 lockdown. During the fall of 2020, the NAIA announced plans to have all fall championships take place during the spring '21 semester, so Coonan and company went from a zero-game slate to a chaotic schedule.
Coonan, along with Claire Stovall and Melissa Katherman, were on double-duty week in and week out for practically every day, but luckily for the staff, the performance of Westmont's athletic teams let it be known that the trainers efforts were more than worthwhile.
During the 2020-21 season, Westmont athletic teams claimed five regular season GSAC championships, won a GSAC tournament championship, advanced all 17 programs to postseason play, and participated in 12 NAIA National Championships (with Women's Basketball winning the national title).
A native of Ventura, Calif., Bridget received her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Ithaca College in 2018. While at Ithaca, Bridget worked closely with IC's field hockey and wrestling teams, as well as Cornell University's track & field team.Â
Bridget has been a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) since 2016 and has been a BOC-certified athletic trainer since 2018.
