Cody Carlson joins the Westmont coaching staff for the Fall 2026 season following more than a decade of collegiate and club coaching experience in Redlands, CA.

Carlson most recently served as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for men’s soccer at the University of Redlands, where he helped build and sustain one of the region’s most successful Division III programs. Across his 10 seasons, Redlands captured five Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) regular-season championships and three SCIAC Tournament titles (2015, 2016, 2021). The Bulldogs reached the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals in 2016, the Sweet 16 in 2021, and the NCAA Second Round in 2015, while achieving the program’s highest-ever national ranking at No. 7 following the 2016 season.

Carlson was part of multiple SCIAC and All-West Region Coaching Staffs of the Year and played a key role in the development of 31 All-SCIAC selections, six SCIAC Athlete of the Year winners, 16 All-West Region players and three All-Americans. He also helped mentor numerous student-athletes recognized for academic excellence.

In addition to his collegiate responsibilities, Carlson served as the inaugural head coach of Redlands FC (USL2) from 2023–2026. He led the club to the 2023 Southwest Division title and compiled a 20-11-9 record over four seasons. Several of his players have gone on to compete professionally in MLS, USL Championship and leagues abroad.

Carlson also spent a year on staff at the University of Portland in 2017 as Director of Operations before returning to coach his alma mater.

A 2012 Redlands graduate, Carlson was a standout four-year student-athlete and two-year team captain. He earned 2011 SCIAC Athlete of the Year honors, three First-Team All-SCIAC selections, three All-West Region honors, NSCAA All-American and Scholar All-American recognition.

Carlson also played semi-professionally in USL2/PDL and MASL before beginning his coaching career. He holds a Master of Arts in Management from Redlands and a USSF National “B” License. He currently coaches with Santa Barbara SC MLS NEXT.
