Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Loses Doubleheader to Cal Baptist

Westmont Baseball lost both games of a doubleheader to the #3 Lancers of California Baptist on Saturday in Riverside. Starting freshman Kellen Skersies pitched six and two-thirds innings for the Warriors giving up just three runs on seven hits in the first game, but the Warriors could not generate enough offense in the 3-1 loss.

Westmont (7-33, 2-23) did not register a hit until the eighth inning. After senior third baseman Jordan Ballard led off the inning with a walk, senior right fielder Darren Fouret singled up the middle to give the Warriors runners at first and second with no outs. Sophomore shortstop Philip Valle grounded into a double play which advanced freshman Derek Fugitt, who pinch ran for Ballard, to third base.

With two outs, junior Hector Chavez pinch hit for sophomore Vinny Lopez and produced an infield single to second base which scored Fugitt and put the Warriors on the board. The two hits recorded in the inning would be the only ones made by Westmont in the game.

Senior Kevin Fouret pitched the last inning and one-third for the Warriors without allowing a base runner.

Fouret also started on the mound for the Warriors in game two, but quickly gave up four runs (three earned) and was replaced by sophomore Jonathan White in the first inning. White produced five innings of work, allowing three runs on five hits in the 7-0 Warrior loss. Sophomore John Evans pitched the final inning in relief.

Offensively, the Warriors were limited again to two hits – a single by freshman center fielder Nate Shaver in the sixth inning and a lead-off double by freshman Nate Dreesmann in the seventh. For Dreesmann, who pinch hit for senior Dominick Paluso, it was his first collegiate hit.

The Warriors will play four times this week, beginning with games on Wednesday and Thursday at Fresno Pacific. Both games will begin at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Warriors will honor the seniors in the final home games of the season – a doubleheader against The Master's which begins at noon.
