After dropping the first game of doubleheader by a score of 9-5, Westmont Baseball (2-8, 1-4 GSAC) picked up a 3-1 victory over California Baptist (9-2, 2-2 GSAC) on Saturday in Riverside.
In the first game, Mark Boujikian went four for five with a run scored, but the Warriors gave up five runs in the sixth inning. Tim Crabbe (0-4) took the loss for the Warriors. The starter pitched five and one-third innings for the Warriors, giving up six runs on eight hits. Contributing to the loss was seven fielding errors by the Warriors.
In the second game of the twin-bill, starter Kellen Skersies (1-1) pitched five innings, giving up just one run on seven hits. Skersies struck out two and walked one.
After giving up a run in the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors pulled even in the top of the fifth inning. Catcher Sam Wiley got things going with a one-out double to left field. One out later, Charles Whitman, who served as a courtesy runner for Wiley, advanced to third on single by Mike Zettl and then scored on a throwing error by left fielder Jake Johnson.
Westmont added two more runs in the top of the sixth, which proved to be all the Warriors would need. Westmont left fielder Brent Meschuk led off the inning with a triple to right field and was joined on the base pads by center fielder Taylor Maddox who reached on a fielders choice.
Third baseman Jordan Bottenfield picked up an RBI with a single to center. Maddox reached third on the play but Bottenfield was thrown out trying to take second base. Maddox eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Dan Price picked up a save by pitching two scoreless and hitless innings for the Warriors.
Assuming the weather cooperates, the Warriors have a very busy week ahead of them. On Tuesday and Wednesday, Westmont will host British Columbia in two o'clock games at Russ Carr Field. On Thursday, Westmont will play host to Fresno Pacific in a one o'clock game. On Friday, Westmont will travel to the City of Orange for a two o'clock match-up with Chapman and then continue down to San Diego for a doubleheader with Point Loma Nazarene on Saturday.
