Westmont Women's Soccer fell 1-0 in overtime to Point Loma Nazarene (4-4-4, 2-3-2 GSAC) in a Golden State Athletic Conference game played in San Diego on Saturday.
"We didn't stay with our man on a cross," said Westmont head coach Kristi Kiely. "They were able to get a cross off to somebody in the box who headed in past Roxanne."
Erica Wessels was the Point Loma player who headed in a pass from Lindsay Bollar in the ninety-ninth minute of the game.
"Overall, we were grinding it out," said Kiely. "The team put forth a lot of effort. We played the majority of the game in Point Loma's half of the field. But they really flew at us in the overtime and we didn't do the same."
The Warriors outshot 9-6 but only two of their shots were on goal.
"Ashley Correa had a good game," said Kiely, "probably her best one since returning. She took a couple of really good shots but wasn't able to put it away. Skyla Lauda had a great game as well, holding back their attack."
With the loss, Westmont falls to 6-5-2 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Westmont is currently tied with Fresno Pacific (5-7-1, 3-3 GSAC) for fifth place in the GSAC standings. #4 The Master's (13-1-1, 6-1 GSAC) took over first place when they defeated Vanguard (7-4-3, 1-3-2 GSAC) by a score of 3-1 and #14 California Baptist (10-4, 4-3 GSAC) upset #2 Azusa Pacific (10-1-2, 5-1-1 GSAC) by a 2-1 score in overtime. California Baptist moved into third place while Concordia (8-3-3, 3-1-2 GSAC) is in fourth.
The Warriors return to action on Wednesday for a home game at Thorrington field against Azusa Pacific. Kick-off is scheduled for three o'clock.
