Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Harrell's Golden Goal Gives Warriors Win

Just one minute into overtime, Doug Harrell put an end to the game with goal which gave the Warriors a 2-1 win over San Diego Christian. Marcos Lopez threw the ball in from the right sideline near the corner. Peter Schmetz got his head on the ball and flicked it in front of the net before a Hawk defender kicked it toward the top of the box where Harrell was waiting.

Harrell fired off a shot from 16 yards out, but the ball deflected off the same defender and travelled to the right side of the field. Dan Sargent Sargent ran up on the ball and fired from about 22 yards out. Once more the ball was deflected and once more it found Harrell. This time Harrell used a bit of finesse to lift the ball over the keepers' outstretched arms and into the net.

The win improved the Warriors' record to 6-1-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. San Diego Christian fell to 1-6-1 and 0-3 in the GSAC.

Westmont's first goal came in just the fifth minute of play. Harrell, passed the ball from the right side to Harrison Hill who scored from 10 yards out.

In the thirty-ninth minute, San Diego Christian recorded the equalizer that would eventually send the game into overtime. The Hawks' Dylan Chavez and Fidias Monzon raced toward the goal with no one to stop them except Westmont keeper Matt McNab. Chavez fired off a blast from the right side which McNab blocked. However, the rebound came to Monzon who put the ball in the empty net.

Westmont returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to La Mirada for game under the lights at seven o'clock. On Saturday, Westmont will take on Concordia in Irvine, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
