A day after posting a 1-0 win over Oregon Tech (3-5), Westmont Baseball (5-2) earned a split with Hustlin' Owls in a doubleheader at Russ Carr Field. In the first game, Oregon Tech posted a 3-2 win. The Warriors came back, however, to notch a 5-1 win in the nightcap.
Oregon Tech posted two runs in the third and one in the fourth to go up 3-0 in the first game. Westmont reclaimed two of those runs in the bottom of the fourth. An RBI single by Mitch Petrak allowed Tim Leary to score after he led off the inning with a single. Coby Cress scored on a error by the pitcher on a pick-off attempt, Cress had reached by doubling to right center following Leary's single.
Geoff Rocha (0-1) took the loss for the Warriors. He pitched seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on seven hits. Rocha walked three and struck out three.
Leary took to the mound in the second game and earned a complete seven inning victory. Leary allowed one run on four hits. He struck out four without issuing a free pass.
Leary put the Warriors ahead 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning with a two-run home run. Westmont added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when Jordan Bottenfield singled down the left field line, driving in Steven Motush and Chris Ramirez.
The Warriors play again on Thursday when they host the Thunderbirds of British Columbia at Russ Carr Field. First pitch is scheduled for two o'clock.
