Westmont Baseball (18-19-1, 9-13 GSAC) started its four-game series against #11 Concordia (26-13, 15-7 GSAC) by splitting a doubleheader with the Eagles on Saturday in Irvine. Westmont won the first game 11-5 but fell in the second game 12-5.

Tim Leary (4-4) picked up the win in the first game, pitching seven innings and giving up three runs, two earned, on five hits. In his last three starts, Leary has pitched 22 innings and struck out 17 batters – including five on Saturday – without allowing a walk.

At the plate, J.J. Turbin was five for six win a run scores and an RBI. Coby Cress and David Pennington went three for five with Pennington hitting two doubles. Westmont produced 19 hits in the game – four doubles and 15 singles. The Warriors scored in five different innings including three runs in the third and five in the fifth.

The second game turned into a calamity of errors as the Warriors committed five miscues that results in six unearned runs. Mitch Petrak and Thomas Hocutt were two for three at the plate while Leary was two for four. Ryan Sullivan was charged with the loss.

The Eagles and Warriors continue their series on Monday and Tuesday when the two teams meet at Russ Carr Field. Game time is three o'clock on both days.
