Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Warriors Power Past Eagles in Second Half

Jackie Lopez A trio of second half goals gave #12 Westmont Women's Soccer (10-3, 5-2 GSAC) a 4-1 Golden State Athletic Conference win over #5 Concordia (11-3-1, 5-1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Thorrington Field.

Senior forward Kaci Mexico scored early for the Warriors, putting the ball in the net in the second minute. Courtney Stonesifer passed the ball to Mexico who eluded a defender and then shot the ball from right of the goal. Mexico's shot hit the crossbar, dropped down and spun into the goal.

Concordia's Alexis Garcia-Irons scored an equalizer in the 12th minute. A ball passed from midfield was intercepted but bobbled by Westmont's goalkeeper. Garcia-Irons, who was running onto the ball, took advantage and shot into an empty net.

Neither scored rest of the half, but by the time 13 minutes had expired off the second half clock, the Warriors were in possession of a 4-1 lead.

Tiffany Dimaculangan scored the game winner in the 48th minute. Jackie Lopez crossed midfield in full stride and passed the ball to Mallory Mitchell who was paralleling her along the right side line. Mitchell, also in full stride, fired off a cross to Tiffany Dimaculangan who was charging the net. Dimaculangan took just one touch to drive the ball into the left side of the net.

In the 52nd minute, Mitchell collaborated on the Warriors' third goal. Taking the ball on the left sideline, Mitchell drove toward the baseline, beating two defenders in the process. The Eagle's goalkeeper came out to meet Mitchell, but just as she arrived, Mitchell passed the ball to Kelsey Steck who tucked it in the net from six yards out.

The final goal came in the 58th minute. Sophie Fuller drove a ball over the top which Jackie Lopez tracked down. As the keeper came to meet her, Lopez looped a ball over her head and into the goal.

Concordia entered the game in first place in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings with 16 points (three points for a win, one for a tie) but as a result of the loss dropped into a tie for second place behind #14 Vanguard (13-1-1, 6-1). The Lions, who have 18 points, defeated #9 Biola (11-3, 5-2) by a score of 2-1 to capture first place.

The Master's (10-4-1, 5-2-1), ranked at number 11, posted an 8-0 win over Arizona Christian to tie Concordia for second. However, the Master's has played one more game than the rest of the league in gaining their 16 points.

Westmont and Biola are tied for fourth place with 15 points. With just three games left in the regular season (two games for The Master's), just three points separates first place from fifth.

Next week, the Warriors will travel to Costa Mesa on Wednesday to take on Vanguard. Then on Saturday, Westmont and Biola will face off at Thorrington field. The Warriors will conclude the regular season with a trip to Rocklin to take on William Jessup on Tuesday, October 28.
