Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Warriors Go Five Sets Twice

Kami Troesh

This morning, the Westmont women's volleyball team kicked off the first of their four matches in the Biola Volleyball/Red Lion-Anaheim Summer Slam Tournament.

First on the agenda for the Warriors was #17 Rocky Mountain (Mont). Westmont came out swinging. Unfortunately, with seven players over six feet tall, Rocky Mountain's block was impenetrable. The Bears finished with 17 team blocks as it continually frustrated the Warriors' offensive efforts. As a result, Westmont recorded an attack percentage of .087 over the five sets.

In the first set, the Warriors stayed neck and neck with the Bears until Rocky Mountain gained some momentum and went on a 13-4 run to close out the set. From that point on, it was a battle. While The Warriors won games two and four, the Bears were the ultimate victors in the five game match (25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 23-25, 15-7).

The Warrior's offense was led by senior Madison Serrano who finished with a team high of 20 kills while freshman Taylor Beckman was next in line with 12 kills. Their defense was headed up by Kami Troesh who capped the game off with 20 digs and three aces.

Later into the evening, the Westmont women took the court again, this time against Southern Oregon University. Once again, the Warriors stayed right on the tail of their opponent, until the Raiders went on a 5-0 run to pull away with the solid lead. The Warriors attempted to close the gap, but ultimately fell short in a 25-21 loss.

Westmont was able to rally back and win some tough fought battles in the second and third set, but ultimately lost the war, losing to Southern Oregon in five sets (21-25, 25-19, 25-21, 19-25, 11-15).

Tomorrow the Warriors will take on Montana Tech at 4:00pm followed by Concordia (Ore.) at 8:00pm.
