The Warriors have won by at least 10 points in five of their first seven games. That trend would continue on Thursday night as Westmont (7-1) claimed a 90-49 victory over the Golden Eagles of La Sierra University (0-8). With the win, #12 Westmont improves to 7-1 on the season.
Westmont's venomous offense played powerfully throughout the night. 6'7'' forward Olisa "O" Nwachie led all Warrior scorers with 18 points. Coach
John Moore delighted in O's play, stating, "The star of the first half was definitely
Olisa Nwachie. Olisa was especially efficient tonight and did an outstanding job of leading us." He was complimentary of another big performer,
Stefan Inouye, who contributed 12 points and 4 rebounds off the bench. Moore touted the guard's multi-dimensional performance, stating, "Stef took two charges in the game. He attacked the rim. He made a left handed layup that I thought was beautiful. He made threes." Westmont fans witnessed a solid Warrior performance on both ends of the court. 11 players scored for Westmont while the defense held La Sierra's guards to 16 points.
Nwachie and junior guard
Sean Harman propelled Westmont to an 11-8 advantage. Inouye scored the team's next five points as part of a 12-0 Warriors' run. The Warriors extended their lead to 18 by halftime and never looked back. Harman added to a strong first half performance with four points and a steal in the second frame. The Warriors' stingy defense shut down La Sierra whose struggles continued after recess. Westmont held the Golden Eagles to just four points in the final five minutes.
The Warriors resume play on Saturday December 3 against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (2-2). The Sagehens will make the journey to La Paz Road carrying a 2-0 run of their own. Tipoff is at 4:00 in Murchison Gymnasium.
