(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Men's Tennis (5-6, 2-2 GSAC) defeated Hope International (5-8, 0-4 GSAC) by a score of 8-1 on Saturday. The Warriors also lost to division III opponent Williams (Mass.) (6-2) 0-9. Williams is ranked seventh in division III.

In Saturday's match against Hope, the Warriors went up 2-1 after doubles play.
John T. Joens and
Miles Hale conquered Jayke Ancheta and Gariel Barazetti 8-3 in the number two position. At threes, Westmont's
Jordan Strandness and
Corey Stephens defeated Sergio Romero and Anotine Voisin 8-4. Hope scored their only point of the match at ones where Kyle Rae and Aleks Trifunovic took down
Christian Mathis and
Luke Whalen 8-5.

The Warriors would go on to sweep the Royals in singles play. At fives, Strandness made quick work of Barazetti 6-1, 6-1. In the three position, Joens triumphed over Romero 6-3, 6-4. Mathis defeated Rae at twos by a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

The remaining three singles matches required three sets for completion. At the six position, Stephens slipped past Ancheta 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. At fours, Hale came back to defeat Voisin 2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-5). Whalen finished the singles-sweep for the Warriors as he edged Trifunovic 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) at the one position.

The Warriors finished the match victorious by a score of 8-1 and are currently in third place in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings.

Westmont fell early in doubles play today against Williams. Austin Barr and Brian Grodecki took down Whalen and Mathis 8-3. Alex Taylor and Calvin Chung slipped past Westmont's Joens and Hale 8-6. Jordan Sadowsky and Arturo Kam triumphed over Strandness and Stephens 8-4 in the three position – giving Williams a 3-0 advantage heading into singles play.

Benjamin Lebowitz conquered Hale 6-3, 6-4 at fours. In the six position, Christopher Wu took down Hale 6-4, 6-2. Sachin Raghavan overcame a first set loss to Whalen and defeated him 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2). At twos, Deepak Indrakanti defeated Mathis 6-3, 6-3.

At fives, Christian O'Connor edged Strandness 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-4). Lastly, Chung defeated Joens 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) to complete the sweep of the Warriors.

Westmont returns to the courts April 6 as they host division III opponent Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) at home. First-serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
