Westmont Tennis Drops Both to Concordia

(IRVINE, Calif.) Westmont Men's and Women's Tennis both dropped their matches to the Eagles of Concordia this past Thursday. The men (6-7) fell to Concordia (6-11) by a score of 3-6 and women (8-8) dropped their match to the Eagles (9-10) by a final line of 1-8.
 
The men finished their match first and started the match with singles play. At ones, Florian Mayer took down Luke Whalen 6-1, 6-1 for the Eagles. At fives, Thomas Kyle triumphed over Westmont's Jordan Strandness 6-2, 6-1. In the four position, Concordia's Daniel Reddmann defeated Miles Hale 6-4, 6-3.
 
Concordia snagged their fourth point as Man Hon Ko triumphed over Corey Stephens 6-2, 6-3 at the six position. The Warriors grabbed their first point of the match at the three position where John T. Joens conquered Nikita Katsnelson 6-4, 6-4. Christian Mathis added another point for Westmont as he defeated Joseph Bray 7-5, 6-2 at twos.
 
The Eagles won their match deciding fifth point at number one doubles. Mayer and Reddmann took down Mathis and Hale 8-3. At twos, Joens and Austin Lee triumphed over Hon Ko and Kyle 8-7 (7-3) for the Warriors. To finish the match, Katsnelson and Shimon Murakami conquered Strandness and Stephens 8-5 – bringing the match to its final score of 6-3 in favor of Concordia.
 
In the women's match, singles play was dominated by the Eagles. At ones, Anastasiia Kuprina defeated Isabel Lee 6-2, 6-2 at ones. At threes, Johanna Keeline triumphed over Tatum Phillips 6-3, 6-1. In the two position, Concordia's Ghazal Pakbaten moved past Peyton Trebisky 6-2, 6-2.
 
In the six position, Kathrine Jensen fought past Westmont's Zarina Huber 6-2, 6-2. The 6-2 trend continued in the five position as Concordia's Ghada Al-Ajeely beat Taylor Cheung-Damonte 6-2, 6-2. To round out singles play, Samantha Schuster completed the singles sweep for the Eagles as she took down Delaney Roche 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
 
In doubles play, Kuprina and Schuster conquered Lee and Trebisky 8-1 at the one position. Westmont scored their lone point of the match at threes where Phillips and Roche defeated Glick and Haley Diefenback 8-3. The match concluded with Keeline and Pakbaten triumphing over Cheung-Damonte and Huber 8-6. This brought the match to its finals score of 8-1 in favor of the Eagles.
