(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Soccer (9-0-1, 2-0 GSAC) recorded its fourth shutout in a row with a 1-0 Golden State Athletic Conference win over the Oaks of Menlo (5-2, 0-1).
Â
"The first 45, we were composed and confident within our distribution," said Westmont head coach
Chantel Cappuccilli, "Our willingness to connect and keep the ball was high and positive."
Â
Teagan Matye scored the game winner in the 37th minute. Matye chased down a loose ball, taking one touch to clear the ball from an oncoming defender. Matye's second touch was a shot from 16 yards out that snuck inside the near post.
Â
"Teagan has notched two goals in two games and is at five on the season," noted Cappuccilli. "She continues to show up. She is a unique player and I'm thankful to have watched her stepped up into a bigger role.
Â
"We transitioned quickly out of the back on that play, which allowed us to bring some pressure, get numbers higher up the field and notch a goal," said Cappuccilli.
Â
"Menlo sat 11 behind the ball in the first half," noted Cappuccilli. "In order to break that down you are going to have to move the ball quickly. I thought we did that well in the first half. We were combining, making runs off of each other and being dynamic and threatening.
Â
"I hope the second 45 is a good learning lesson for us. We need to continue to get better at adapting to the different elements of the game, or what the opponent is giving us. The first 45 we did. The second 45, we needed to have a better tactical awareness and adjustment."

Sophomore
Gabi Haw, who recorded two saves in the game, has not allowed a goal in 379 minutes of play. She has seen her goals-against average drop to just 0.59.
Â
Westmont's next opponent game will be in Costa Mesa on Saturday, October 6, when the Warriors will take on the Lions of Vanguard (7-1, 1-0). Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
