(CLAREMONT, Calif.) Westmont Men's Tennis fell 6-1 to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags on Friday night, in the first half of their weekend road trip.
Â
In doubles, things went down to the wire after
Ethan Ha and
Austin Stone won at number (6-0), and
Logan Thompson and
Owen Vander Ark fell on two (6-2). The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker on three, but in the end, Daniel Blackman and Anirudh Reddy out-lasted
Michael Hopkins and
Goor Adiv 7-6 (5).
Â
In singles, Westmont's lone win came on five, where he bested Blackman 3-6, 6-2, and 7-5. The Warriors played a few other competitive matches, including three-setters on four and six. On four, Adiv fell 0-6, 6-1, 3-6, and on six,
Preston Hastings fell 1-6, 6-3, 2-6.
Â
On the first three lines, Stone fell 6-2, 6-2, Thompson lost 6-2, 7-6 (6), and Ha fell 6-4, 6-3.
Â
"A highlight for us today was our win at number one doubles," said Westmont head coach
Chris Elwood. "
Ethan Ha and
Austin Stone really played in fine form, the best I'd seen them play together. Owen's win in singles was very impressive as well. He was down four match-points and came back to win it 7-5 in the third.
Â
"We had a few other chances as a team. Preston lost in three sets, as did Goor, Ethan played a couple close sets, and so did Logan with a tiebreaker.
Â
"We were right there, but we fell short. We didn't win any first sets in singles, but we did show some good fight, winning four second sets. Going into tomorrow, we'll try to bring our best from the get-go."

The Warriors are back at it Saturday morning, when they battle Pomona-Pitzer at 10:00 a.m.Â
