(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Men's Tennis was unable to come-from-behind after dropping the doubles point to Colorado Mesa on Wednesday, as the Mavericks ultimately defeated the Warriors 5-2. In a couple high-stakes matches that could have propelled Westmont to an appearance in the PacWest Tennis Tournament, the Warriors were unable to take advantage of the opportunity on either Tuesday or Wednesday.

At number one doubles Austin Stone and Ethan Ha got an early advantage with a 6-1 win, but Colorado Mesa responded with a 6-3 win on two, and a 6-4 win on three to grab some key early momentum. In singles both Logan Thompson and Ha were able to bounce back from slow starts to pick up victories, giving Westmont a peek at a possible comeback.

On two, Thompson defeated William Leschig 7-5, 6-2, and on three, Ha got the better of Diogo Manzano 6-4, 6-2. Elsewhere, however, Westmont could muster only one set, with Owen Vander Ark forcing a fifth set on five after the Mavericks had already clinched the match.

On one, Philemon Jabin dispatched Stone 6-4, 6-4, on four, Henry Scheck bested Goor Adiv 6-3, 6-1, and on six, Jorge Abreu defeated Preston Hastings 6-1, 7-5. For good, after an abbreviated third set, Emil Hultman outlasted Vander Ark 6-1, 5-7, 10-5.

Westmont head coach Chris Elwood said, "Our highlights of the day were Ethan Ha and Logan Thompson returning to form. They played really well in singles, which is a great sign for them and a great sign for us."

The Warriors next match is scheduled for this coming weekend, when Westmont will host Hawaii Hilo on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
