(HONOLULU) Westmont Men's Soccer (5-7-2, 1-5-1 PacWest) surrendered three goals within a space of nine minutes and couldn't find quite enough firepower to comeback against the Silverswords of Chaminade (1-8-1, 1-5-1), falling 4-3 on Saturday.

"The reality is that Chaminade owned the boxes," said Westmont's head coach Morgan Cathey. "We were decent at controlling the game, however, in the 18-yard boxes, they were better than us.

"We didn't defend the transition moments well enough. Credit to Chaminade, who finished their chances."

The Warriors scored first, courtesy of a goal by Serkan Durna in the 31st minute. From the top of the box, Leonel Olivo Ortiz slotted a ball forward behind the defenders. Durna ran on the ball from the right side, took one touch, then beat the keeper one-on-one to record his fifth goal of the season.

However, the Silverswords knotted up the game in the 43rd minute when Owen Malone scored assisted by Kayden Madeiros That sent the game into the intermission with a 1-1 tie.

In the 62nd minute, Medeiros scored on an unassisted goal, the first of three that Chaminade would score in rapid succession. In the 68th minute, Vlad Tomutiu put the Silverswords up 3-1. Then in the 70th minute, Owen Caba converted on a penalty kick, giving Chaminade a 4-1 advantage.

Westmont's Erik Guerrero brought the Warriors to within two when he converted a corner kick in the 76th minute, scoring his seventh goal of the season. The PK was awarded when Luis Cortes was upended in the top of the 18-yard box.

The game's final goal came in the final minute of play when Tiago Aranibar recorded his first collegiate goal. A throw in from the right side deflected off a Chaminade defender. Aranibar, one-touched the ball into the side netting left of the goal to account for the final score.

"Overall, this was a difficult trip where we had great moments but ultimately we are not going to win games by conceding the chances we did," noted Cathey.

The Warriors return home from the Aloha State to host Vanguard on Wednesday at Thorrington Field. The game is scheduled for a 3:15 p.m. kick-off.

"We are very much looking forward to these last three matches and rewriting the storyline," expressed Cathey
