(SANTA BARBARA, Calif.) Westmont Women's Tennis (7-10) hosted a quality Missouri-St. Louis team (7-4) on Friday, the farthest-traveled stateside visitors to the Abbott Tennis Courts this year. Despite a 7-0 defeat, the Warriors competed particularly well in singles, pushing four of the six matches to a third set.

Before that, the Tritons won the doubles matches on courts one and two—6-3 and 6-2, respectively. With the doubles point already clinched, Westmont's number three team of Emma Rashid and Justie Spitzer were still battling in their match, but ultimately fell 6-4.

Missouri-St. Louis took a 3-0 advantage thanks to a pair of straight-set singles victories on courts four and six. However, it would be a while before they could get their fourth, clinching point as the Warriors worked hard to stay alive in their remaining matches.

In fact, three Warriors took an early lead. The senior number one Spitzer earned a 7-5 first-set win as number two Lauren Gee similarly gutted her way to a 7-6 (8-6) victory. Number five Emma Rashid dominated her first set, 6-0.

However, the visitors proved difficult to beat. Spitzer dropped the next two sets for a 7-5, 3-6, 2-6 final line. After her first-set tiebreak win, Gee fell 7-5, 6-2 in the second and third.

Courts three and five each hosted polarizing matches. Falling 6-1 in her first set, Sabina Salva kept her match alive with a 7-5 second-set win before a 6-2 third-set loss. Rashid's strong 6-0 opening win was unfortunately overlooked by the 6-0, 1-6, 3-6 final line—which earned the Tritons their fourth point.

The Warriors have another opportunity tomorrow as they travel to Biola (9-6) beginning at 11 a.m.
