(ATHERTON, Calif.) Westmont Women's Tennis (8-13) ended their three-day road trip with a visit to Menlo (11-5) on Saturday. Despite Westmont's valiant effort in singles, the Oaks prevailed 5-2.
The doubles point was straightforward for the hosts as they took 6-2 wins on courts two and three. Number one pair
Lauren Gee and
Sabina Salva were leading 4-3 before their match was halted.
In singles, Menlo earned straight-set victories on courts two, four, and six to clinch the match.
Avala Elwood was the closest to extending her match with a 7-5 second-set defeat.
But the Warriors continued to battle on courts one, three, and five, as all three went to a third set. Number five
Ellie Triplett got the team their first point, coming back from a 6-4 first-set loss to win the second by the same score. She then went on to win the superbreaker 10-7.
Shortly after, number three
Lauren Gee finished her close match. A similar scoreline to Triplett, she won the first set 7-5 but dropped the second 6-4 before a 10-6 superbreaker went Menlo's way.
Thea Donarski salvaged another point for Westmont, getting to the 5-2 final score. Westmont's number one earned a 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 victory to close out the match.
The Warriors end the regular season with one final match hosting Point Loma (12-3) next Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
