Â
(LA MIRADA, Calif.) Westmont Men's and Women's Tennis took on the Biola Eagles on Friday in La Mirada, in what was both club's penultimate day of competition this season. Westmont's women began the day by falling 6-1, before Westmont's men fell 5-2 in the afternoon.
Â
For the women, the day started with a doubles sweep by Biola, giving the Eagles the day's first point. Westmont's best fight during doubles came on court three, where
Francesca Aguirre and
Sabina Salva ultimately fell 6-3.
Â
Biola did not waste much time in singles, winning on courts three and four in straight sets over
Sophia Ostovany and Salva. Soon-after
Olivia Madarang fell 6-2, 6-2 on two to clinch the match for the Eagles. Westmont's
Liska Knight proved to be the club's biggest bright spot on Friday, when she got Westmont on the board with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Breanna Hiebert on six.
Â
Westmont's men started the day off with a bit more optimism, after taking two and three doubles to claim the day's first match. On two,
Logan Thompson and
Owen Vander Ark won 6-4, and on three,
Michael Hopkins and
Goor Adiv won 7-5.
Â
Unfortunately for the Warriors, the Eagles quickly turned the match upside down, taking five of six first sets in singles. Westmont's lone point came on two, where Thompson went up a set with a 6-4 win, before his opponent retired in the second. Elsewhere, however, the Warriors dropped all five matches around him. Wins at one, three, four, five, and six capped off a come-from-behind 5-1 win for the Eagles.
Â
On Saturday both the men's and women's seasons will come to an end in San Diego, when the Warriors take on the Point Loma Sea Lions.Â
