For the second time this season, Westmont freshman goalkeeper
Lalo Delgado has been named the Golden State Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defender of the Week.
Delgado, who makes his home in Oxnard and came to the Warriors from Carpinteria High School, picked up his third shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at San Diego Christian last Monday. In the process, Delgado picked up six saves.
On Saturday, Delgado faced off against #17 Hope International (10-0-4, 4-0-2 GSAC), the GSAC's second-place team, and held the high-scoring Royals to just one penalty kick goal to help earn the Warriors a 1-1 tie. Delgado tacked on two more saves in the double-overtime game, bringing his total to eight on the week and 26 on the season.
In seven games this year, Delgado has posted a goals-against average of 0.65 and accumulated a record of five wins against one loss.
Delgado was also named the GSAC Defender of the Week on October 3 after the Warriors earned a 3-1 win over then #8 Vanguard. Delgado played just 58 minutes in that game but recorded four saves without giving up a goal.
The same week, Westmont's Matt Lariviere was named the GSAC Offensive Player of the Week. The senior midfielder from Camarillo recorded a goal and provided an assist to help defeat Vanguard.
Westmont (7-4-1, 4-2-1) currently sits in third place in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings, having amassed 13 points (three points for a win, one for a tie). The Warriors are one point behind Hope International and three points back of Menlo (11-2-1, 5-0-1). On Thursday, Westmont will host the first-place Oaks of Menlo at Thorrington Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
