Box Score Samantha Neely tallied 11 kills on 16 attempts without committing an attack error as #14 Westmont Volleyball (20-6) swept the Sea Beggars of Providence Christian (6-22) in a non-conference volleyball match on Saturday. The Warriors won by set scores of 25-13, 25-11, 25-20.
Providence Christian College, founded in 2005 and based in Pasadena, is in its first year as a member of the NAIA. This is the inaugural season for Sea Beggars Volleyball.
Neely posted a hitting percentage of .688. Taylor Beckman recorded seven kills with a .429 attack percentage while Emma Harrah and Mila Maricic both had a .385 attack percentage with seven kills each.
Tied at eight in the first set, Westmont scored five of the next six points to take a 13-9 lead and spark a 17-5 run to claim the opening frame.
In the second set, the Warriors reversed a 3-1 deficit with a 6-0 run that included kills by Harrah, Sydney Striff, Neely and Mila Miricic. After a Warrior service error ended the run, the Westmont attack took over, tallying 15 kills in the rest of the set.
The Warriors jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the third set but saw the Sea Beggars rally to threaten a comeback. With Westmont up 24-20, Neely delivered the final blow to give Westmont its 20th win of the season.
The Warriors have one game remaining in the regular season. On Saturday, Westmont will host The Master's in a game that will determine if Westmont finishes alone in third place in the GSAC standings or if it will share third place with the Mustangs. In the first meeting this season in Santa Clarita, the Warriors swept the Mustangs in straight sets.
